Groups, Ensembles & Bands

Rock Band

Come together and have fun jamming in a band setting, learning parts and rehearsing complete songs while learning valuable lessons about collaboration/teamwork, discipline and effective communication. This is why we learn to play an instrument, and it's the next step in becoming a musician.  Bands will have the opportunity to perform in public with real gigs!

Instructed by professional session/touring musicians.  Groups are formed according to ability, interests, and age groups.  Group pricing in effect.  Evening or weekend sessions available.  Jams occur throughout the year in weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly sessions.  All instruments welcome!

Ongoing availability, no long-term commitment.  *Groups of 4-6 musicians.

Violin Club / String Ensembles

String ensembles and quartets give students an opportunity to play with other young musicians and develop their abilities, learn new skills and have fun playing in a group.  Try a new instrument or learn new parts.  Ensembles give students the perfect chance to maximize their potential and take things to the next step!
Groups are organized by age/level.  Students enrolled privately with the Sound Factory Music School benefit from an annual "membership' rate at up to 80% off the regular price!

Theory Group Classes

Prepare for your Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) theory exams with us in a group setting.  Rudiments apply to any instrument, and theory is a required component of your examinations.  This class is a great way to cover the material so you can use your weekly private lesson for practical (playing) requirements.  Theory classes will include practice examinations, graded with feedback, and review sessions before you write the exam.  Students can now register for the new Preparatory level, in addition to Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced levels, and History 1 or Harmony 1.

Classes are held weekly and contain 3 to 6 students to allow for flexible learning and personal attention.  Focus will be on preparing for the December 2015 or May, 2016 examinations.   Classes begin in September 2015. 

Theory is for more than just exams! A good knowledge of theory helps students to understand the structure of their pieces enabling them to play with more understanding, depth and emotion. Group lessons provide an interactive environment, where each student contributes to help the group learn.  The Ontario Ministry of Education recognizes the Royal Conservatory examinations. Students who complete the following practical and theory requirements may receive up to two high school credits:

Grade 7 Practical + Intermediate (Grade 1) Rudiments = Non-Grade 12 university/college preparation credit.
Grade 8 Practical + Advanced (Grade 2) Rudiments = Grade 12 university/college preparation credit

$16 per class.  25 classes + review.
