Jimmy Gartshore is a classical guitarist who graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Music and a Performance Diploma in Classical Guitar from McMaster University under the tutelage of Pat Feely. In addition to playing classical guitar, Jimmy studied Jazz and rock guitar under the mentorship of Stephen Zurakowsky. His studies have given him a deep understanding of guitar in many styles and genres, which has helped him become a versatile and well-rounded musician. Jimmy feels honoured to be teaching at The Sound Factory alongside his former teacher, Neil Douglas who inspired him to study classical guitar at University.
During his studies Jimmy was an avid competitor and was a Provincial Finalist in 2014 for classical guitar representing the Kitchener Waterloo Kiwanis Music Festival. Beyond teaching, Jimmy is an accomplished soloist and chamber musician performing throughout Southern Ontario. Local performances have included a monthly gig at the Java Garden 2018-2020, Kitchener Waterloo Music Society , and various churches, weddings and events in the Tri Cities. Jimmy has been teaching in Kitchener-Waterloo since 2015. He ran the guitar program at Laurentian Hills Christian School 2017-2019 teaching private guitar and group ukulele. Jimmy volunteered at Laurelwood Public School creating a guitar club for elementary students and helped as a teaching assistant for the Grade 11 guitar class at Laurel Heights. Currently, he teaches group guitar for the Kitchener Community Centers at Breithaupt and Forest Heights. Additionally, Jimmy has successfully prepared students for Royal Conservatory of Music examinations, Kiwanis competitions, and University Music auditions. Jimmy has a passion for teaching all styles of guitar. He looks forward to helping all interested students achieve their musical goals. |
