Violin |
Having grown up in Kitchener-Waterloo, Kaitlynn’s formal training as a classical violinist has been infused with ventures into Celtic/fiddle music, jazz, rock, pop, and more. When she isn’t onstage playing symphonies or under a stage in an orchestra pit, you might find her at a DIY show with chamber-folk band, A Horse Named Friday, or jamming at an open-mic with her friends. You will most definitely find her teaching violin lessons and sharing the knowledge and skills she has developed throughout her time as a performer and music enthusiast.
Kaitlynn has her Honours Bachelors in Music Performance and a Diploma in Chamber Music from Wilfrid Laurier University, where she studied violin with Jeremy Bell and Jerzy Kaplanek, and received further tutelage in chamber music by Christine Vljak and Katie Schlaikjer, all of whom are members of the celebrated Penderecki String Quartet. At the centre of Kaitlynn’s teaching philosophy are foundational life skills that are essential to developing not only as a musician but also as a human being. Under her guidance, each of her students is encouraged to establish short- and long-term goals for their musical studies (whether it be to win an audition or to learn a favourite song), develop personalized practice routines in harmony with their other activities, cultivate self-awareness skills through guided self-assessment in lessons and reflecting upon practice sessions at-home, and formulate strategies when facing particular challenges.
