He specialized in the Valve Trombone but is also proficient on slide trombone, tuba, trumpet and piano. While studying in high-school, Blair won an honours award for his performance in MusicFest Canada and also conducted and helped run the Junior Jazz ensemble at his school. During his time in Toronto he was working and performing all over the city in various groups and venues. Blair performed primarily with "Big Smoke Brass", playing with them all across Southern Ontario and in notable venues like Lee's Palace and the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern. He also worked with many other brass bands and performed at events like the Toronto Festival of Beer, Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market, and most exciting to him was the opportunity to tour and perform with one of New York's prominent brass bands, "Lucky Chops".
With his time at the University of Toronto he had the opportunity to perform and study under world class Canadian Jazz legends like Renee Rosnes, Terry Promane, Jim Vivian, Mike Murley, and John Macleod. Along with this, Blair was selected to participate in the Jazz Workshop at the Engelsholm Castle in Denmark to study with prominent Jazz musicians from around the world. Blair specializes in improvisation and big band playing but is also experienced with running and performing with smaller ensembles and various genres of music. From Funk, Blues, and Folk, to Metal and Rock, Blair has had the opportunity to play or participate in a wide array of shows. His passion for music carries through all genres and styles and he always brings energy and care to whatever stage he is on. |
Blair would love to meet you! Let's get started.
