Irene Yong is a passionate piano instructor who has worked many years with children of all ages. In her past twenty years of instructing, Irene has developed appreciation of music for beginners and younger students, guided students for the grading examinations and assisted students towards diploma levels for the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) accreditation. She has also shared her experiences and nurtured younger teachers towards fine tuning their skills in playing as well as the ability to share and teach others.
As an instructor, Irene believes that every child is unique and the learning ability of each individual is different. There is no one method or approach that fits every child but rather finding the appropriate method or approach for that child creating an individual and personalized approach specific to cater for each student that she instructs. Irene has instructed at two local universities in her home country where she developed and guided undergraduate students in preparation for their Graduation Recital. On top of that, she also taught History and Traditional Counterpoint courses for students who were pursuing a twinning program with the renowned premier music college, Berklee College of Music in the United States of America. Irene holds a Masters in Music Education in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance with emphasis in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Montana of the United States of America. Irene has studied under the tutelage of internationally renowned pedagogues including E. L. Lancaster, Jane Mcgrath, Andrew Cooperstock and Dennis Alexander. Irene and her family moved to Waterloo, Canada in Fall 2017. Currently, she is pursuing her second Masters in Music Therapy at Wilfrid Laurier University.
