Born and raised in Waterloo, Mike was very musically active in high school, playing in several bands and school directed musicals. From there, he went on to complete an Applied Music Diploma from Mohawk College while studying with Kevin Dempsey and Anthony Michelli. While at Mohawk, he also became a member of The Hamilton All-Star Jazz Band led by Dr. Russ Wiel and was fortunate to be a part of a three-week European tour that included shows at the Montreux and Vienne Jazz festivals. After his time at Mohawk, Mike continued his music education with advanced standing at the University of Toronto and graduated from the jazz program in 2016 where he studied with Terry Clarke (C.M.). In addition to teaching privately, he has also taught at National Music Camp and the Grand River Blues Camp. Mike has returned to Waterloo and is an active performer with a variety of different musicians like Matt Weidinger, Chris Latta, Shawn Kellerman, Dylan Wickens and John McKinley.
