Neil Douglas (BMus, BEd) has spent over 40 years studying and playing guitar, and has extensive experience teaching students over a 25 year career. He started playing acoustic guitar at the age of 10 with the Ontario Conservatory of Music in Orangeville, Ontario and classical guitar while in high school, and went on to study classical guitar at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto with William Trotter before entering the prestigious music program at Wilfrid Laurier University. While at Laurier his main teachers were Hungarian professor Tibor Puskas and Lynne Gangbar. He also obtained his Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor.
Neil has also studied classical guitar with Michael Bracken, Robert Hamilton, Daniel Bolyshoy, Robert Gruca, and flamenco lessons with Miguel de la Bastide. He has also participated in master classes with world renowned classical guitarists David Russell and Pavel Steidl. He has participated in workshops with fingerstyle players Don Ross and Stephen Bennett. In addition to teaching, Neil has worked as a freelance musician for over 30 years. He has played for many private events, corporate functions, festivals and concerts across Ontario. He has been a member of the faculty at the Sound Factory Music School for nearly a decade. Neil currently performs solo and is a member of the innovative "Latin Fusion Trio", playing a mixture of Latin and rumba flamenco music. Neil plays and offers lessons in classical guitar as well as flamenco and fingerstyle steel string guitar. |
